Hiking along the Rhine - the Rheinsteig trail

The Rheinsteig is a new premium walking trail which follows the course of the River Rhine in Germany from Bonn to Wiesbaden (320 km). It's a spectacular footpath on the right of the Rhine linking the Rheingau with the romantic Middle Rhine Valley, predominately a route on the hills near to the river. The trail offers challenging walks and amazing experiences of nature and culture. Pretty half-timbered towns and many castles line the banks of the river. The Rhine Gorge is since 2002 a UNESCO World Heritage Region.

The Rheinsteig can be tackled in several stages according to invidual requirements.

The following sites show the Rheinsteig from the Loreley (30 km in the north of Rudesheim) to Rauenthal (25 km in the east of Rudesheim). We have tackled the distance in half-day-walking-stages, whereby most of the starting points can be reached by train or bus from Rudesheim.
